Fall Outfits for Actors
As actors, we’re always on the go. From networking events, acting classes, agent seminars, interviews day-to-day jobs, and of course, the infamous audition: we do it all.
Actors are busy, busy people going from one place to another, oftentimes juggling multiple gigs, jobs and auditions in a week (sometimes even in a day!) In an effort to balance out our chaotic schedules, time restraints and deadlines, we might end up compromising on style and comfortability. This is just a friendly reminder that you don’t have to!
You can make a lasting impression without trying too hard and by curating quality wardrobe pieces that don’t require much effort. Here are some easy Fall outfits for any working actor, many of which you can re-use, refurbish and re-layer according to your needs and personal style!
Back to Basics
I’ve recently been a little obsessed with the straight leg and relaxed jean look, especially when paired with some type of form fitting top (usually a blouse or turtleneck). I love adding on a crewneck sweater for added texture and a vintage look that adds just a little more personality to my outfit!
Depending on your personal style or where you’re going, you can personalize this look by swapping in pieces that better suit your needs.
For example, you might consider swapping out a straight leg jean for a loose-fit or flared pant. You can even dress these options up by selecting dark washes or stretchy trousers that look more formal than they are! I love these options from Halara (and I hear many people do too!)
Crewneck sweaters are a great option to pair with any of these bottoms, especially during those crisp and cozy Fall months many of us love so much. You can opt for a solid color or a graphic design that offers a pop of texture! Check out this Red NYC V-Neck Crewneck Sweater for some Fall fashion inspo!
Crewnecks pair well with collared blouses or simple turtlenecks. Check out this ANRABESS turtleneck I recently bought from Amazon (it’s super warm, stretchy and COMFTY!)
Statement Jackets for an Elevated Look
I like topping off an outfit with a statement jacket or coat, especially if the outfit emphasizes a more casual look. This offers the opportunity to elevate your appearance and make a statement (with very little effort).
During the Fall season, I’m particularly a fan of peacoats but other options like leather, corduroy, jean and bomber jackets are great staples to have too.
Tips for Petites
To all of my petite gals out there – I know the struggle. As a 4’9” girly, I know that shopping demands a little more patience from us (and a lot of creativity). Let’s face it, pants are often times too long, a tailored hem is simply unavoidable… and don’t even get me started on shoes!
Here are some tips that have helped me over the years.
For starters, I never shy away from Junior (and yes… even Children’s clothing departments). Frankly, they have my proportions and while the fit doesn’t always align with my body type (I’m slender and petite but I’m also a woman with curves), it gets the job done. With that said, I’m very careful about curating a wardrobe that feels age appropriate and true to my style. This requires filtering out (many) options that simply don’t work and selecting the ones that do (like the Zara Girls Jacket that I’m wearing in these photos) I actually purchased the one that is featured on this blog at a Zara store in Bolonga, Italy during one of my international trips. I can’t seem to find it online but here is something similar on Amazon.
Secondly, know your proportions. If you have a small frame, consider wardrobe pieces that elongate or simply accentuate your height. Personally speaking, I like doing this by finding balance in my outfit. If I wear flared or boot cut pants, I’ll typically pair them with something that doesn’t feel like it’s cutting my frame or my feet. For example, I might choose a nude shoe with a low heel (blocked, if possible) or a shoe that matches the color of the pant I’m wearing for a monochromatic aesthetic. These styling tips can create the illusion of a more elongated figure. While I don’t want to appear taller that I am, I do want my outfit to visually accentuate the length I already have instead of making me shorter than I am.
Another way to balance out an outfit is by offsetting the amount of bulk you’re currently wearing. For example, if I’m wearing a heavier piece at the top (maybe a puffier jacket or a loose button-down shirt) I might balance it out with a form fitting skirt or pair of pants. This creates a cohesive and balanced aesthetic, that can greatly accentuate someone’s figure (especially those with a smaller frame).
No matter what your style is, where you’re headed to, or what stage of your career you’re currently in, there’s always an option waiting for you around the corner, eagerly wanting to be styled by YOU. Continue to curate a closet that represents your beautiful self!
